When Is the Best Time of Year to Replace a Roof in Portland?

Roofers in Portland live by the weather forecast. Here is how we think about scheduling roof replacements through the year — and when it makes sense to push for an earlier or later install.

Peak season: late May through mid-October

This is when Portland's dry-weather windows are most reliable. Crews can plan multi-day tear-offs without rain risk, shingles seal properly in the heat, and the schedule moves fast. The trade-off: this is also when most homeowners want their roofs done, so the calendar fills up quickly and lead times stretch to 4–8 weeks at peak.

Shoulder season: April–May and October–November

Shorter dry windows, lower demand, often better pricing. Good time to schedule if you can be flexible on the install date when the forecast cooperates.

Winter: December–March

Possible but selective. We do install in winter on dry days when temperatures stay above 40°F so shingles can self-seal. Emergency leak repairs are handled year-round and are usually the right move if your roof is actively letting water in.

• If your roof has 2–3 years of life left: schedule for next April–May to get the best lead time.
• If your roof is leaking now: get an emergency inspection — temporary repairs can hold you through to spring.
• If you just had storm damage: file the insurance claim immediately so the install can happen in the next available window.
